Own an Irish island for less than $1 million

Its name is lyrical and its price tag...

For less than half the price of an Aston-Martin One-77,?you can buy your own private island in Northern Ireland.

Inisliroo Island is located on Lough Erne?lake in County Fermanagh, and it?s priced to move at about $970,000.

The island is owned by a local businessman named Noel Cox, and although it has been on the market for six weeks there are no offers on the table yet, said real estate agent?Mark Leinster Friday.

A selling point for the property is its rich history as a home to four generations of one Irish clan, and that the original family dwelling is still standing.

Cox ?acquired the island a number of years ago from the Maguire family,? Leinster said. ?I am unsure as to when it was last occupied.?

According to a brochure about the property:

The Island had to fully provide for the Maguire family and as such every piece of it was utilised. After the Second World War the Island was famous for its fruit production. The Orchard provided much needed revenue and today it is still very much in tact.

While you might get some fruit out of the deal, don?t expect the modern conveniences to which so many of us have become accustomed. The realtor touts a phone line and a ?startomatic electric generator,? which is original to the small house on the island. Leinster couldn?t provide details on whether the generator could be started automatically or with a hand crank.

Either way, expect remote and rustic. Cox was interviewed by BBC radio this week about his island, and he said the property was a place to "escape the capture of electronics.?

Leinster wouldn?t comment on why the owner is selling, but the BBC reported that Cox was putting it up for sale ?due to family and business commitments.?
